Vortex Mixers

Southwest Science vortex mixers are principally used to mix small liquid samples in a tight, high-speed, semi-orbital motion that produces a tornadic action in the tube, vessel, flask or plate. Vortexer mixing speeds can be either fixed or variable but must be relatively high and in a small semi-orbit of just a few millimeters. This is what produces the vigorous mixing action that appears as a tornado in the vessel. Mini or lower power vortex mixers are ideal for small sample tubes up to 15ml. In contrast, full-power vortex mixers thoroughly mix small, medium, and even the largest sample tubes and can handle flasks, odd-shaped vessels, plates, and even multiple tubes in a carrier or held in a hand. The two most common heads on vortex mixers are the cup head for individual tubes and the flat head for single tubes, multiple tubes, flasks, and odd-shaped vessels. Specialty are also available for plates and tubes held horizontally.
